Cooking

SA Supportive DCare is pleased to assist individuals living with disabilities with their day-to-day cooking needs. Our support workers provide support and assistance in preparing meals chosen by the participant, and they offer hands-on training to enable people living with disabilities to acquire and adapt these crucial life skills, ultimately fostering greater independence in their day-to-day lives. These activities are structured to impart basic cooking skills with a focus on using fresh and healthy ingredients in meal preparation and recipes. The level of support is typically minimal, and everything is conducted at a relaxed pace to ensure participants can learn while also enjoying the activity. Participants gain knowledge in reading recipes, practicing safe knife skills, and understanding food safety and hygiene principles. These supports are designed to be inclusive and provide a safe social activity for anyone living with a disability who requires the assistance of a support worker or caregiver to help with their essential daily living tasks.

Engaging in gardening activities can lead to improvements in participants’ physical, mental, and social well-being. Additionally, it can enhance communication and social skills through group participation and community events.

Furthermore, gardening can have a positive impact on fitness, as it can range from physically demanding tasks to gentle stretching and bending exercises. SA Supportive DCare is committed to teaching individuals new skills and motivating them to do so. Our staff are enthusiastic about assisting individuals with their gardening activities, whether it involves general gardening tasks around their homes or more specialized activities such as cultivating herbs and vegetables or creating gift pots with live plants for others.
